Polymer Clay Essentials

Polymer Clay Essentials

Polymer clay is a type of oven bake modeling clay. primarily made of the resin that makes Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and various liquid plasticizers which make the polymer clay soft and workable. The formula for polymer clay varies according to each manufacturer’s specifications.

Similar to casting, the age of the polymer clay and environment conditions affect how easy or not so easy it is to work with this material. Polymer clay needs to be conditioned prior to use, which remixes the color and PVC particles with the plasticizers, but it provides a material design flexibility for your pen designs you can’t get with many media. It is exciting to see what can be made with a little practice and inspiration.

This polymer clay starter kit includes everything you would need to try polymer clay: acrylic roller, flexible tissue blade, clear acrylic sheet for a small work surface or in aiding cane reduction, one 2 ounce block of Kato black polymer clay to use for cane backgrounds, and 3 random polymer clay cane samples (you can request specific canes while supplies last) handcrafted by Tina Wissen.
